Martin Mintz, longtime local attorney and partner of Elizabeth’s Mintz & Geftic law firm, played in a benefit pickleball tournament on September 23rd at Kawameeh Park in Union to help raise money for the family of a local woman, Valencia Shairy.
Valencia sadly lost her battle with breast cancer in August at the age of 37 after a long courageous fight that lasted over fourteen months. The tournament was held to help Valencia’s surviving family, which includes her loving husband, Tanveer, and five children, the youngest of whom recently turned two.
In addition to donating to the family on behalf of Mintz & Geftic, Mr. Mintz also enjoyed participating in the tournament. Marty’s teams weren’t able to win a medal in the tournament, but everyone came away feeling good after playing on behalf of such a great cause.
The benefit tournament served as an early kickoff to October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual event that has drawn so much goodwill throughout our community. There was a big turnout and all of the benefit organizers did a great job in putting the event together.
