$205,000 settlement of premises liability

$21 million verdict, Child Services Negligence-inflicted damages upon a child in foster care. Infant child was improperly placed in foster care and was abused suffering “shaken baby syndrome” resulting in brain damage and multiple bone fractures. State was held liable for breaching its own procedures and regulations in child placement and required oversight. Foster parents were held jointly liable for the inflicted physical damage. January 8, 2016 –We are very pleased to congratulate Jeffrey E. Strauss, of counsel to Mintz & Geftic, LLC and Strauss Law Offices, LLC, who, through a relentless and lengthy hard fought legal battle, secured a $15 million settlement in a medical malpractice suit on behalf of an 11-year-old girl from Irvington, New Jersey. An Essex County, New Jersey Superior Court Judge approved the settlement on December 18, 2015, just 10 days before the trial was scheduled to begin.

$550,000 settlement of wrongful death and survivorship case brought by widow of a man fatally injured by a falling tree limb (Morris County, New Jersey 2009).

Our client, a 40-year-old roofer was injured on a jobsite at a residence in Union County, New Jersey. While working on the roof of the house, our client fell off the roof to the ground. The allegations against the General Contractor were, amongst others, that they failed to supervise, train, and provide appropriate safety equipment such as safety harnesses and fall protection. The worker suffered severe brain injury resulting an epidural hematoma, cortical contusion with hemorrhage in the left frontal lobe, subarachoid hemorrhage, and post-concussion syndrome. $6 Million settlement of a class action against Discover Financial Services related to its merchant membership program and the allegation that the bank was charging merchants for the program without authorization (Bryan H. Mintz, with co-counsel, Southern District of Florida), 2011).

$1.7 million settlement, Medical Malpractice in failing to timely diagnose, refer and treat a patient with cardiac symptoms resulting in a heart attack and severe heart muscle damage. (Jeffrey E. Strauss, Bergen County, New Jersey 2004).

$430,000 settlement arising out of automobile accident. (Bergen County, New Jersey 2001).

  $400,000 settlement for major injuries suffered in a rear-end accident on RT 31 in Washington Township, New Jersey .  This rear-end accident involved a truck hitting our client from behind.  Our client sustained post concusion syndrome, or mild traumatic brain injury, after she was struck by a truck in the accident. She underwent years of cognitive and speech therapy. (Warren County, 2021)

$20 Million settlement of a class action against Bank of America relating to the bank’s credit cards. alleging that the bank imposed payment protection without consent , deceptively marketed the service, and improperly administered the plan harming consumers (Bryan H. Mintz, with co-counsel, Northern District of California, 2013).

May 29, 2015 – Mintz & Geftic settled a lawsuit arising out of a Bergen County motor vehicle accident for $1,475,000.   Mintz & Geftic’s client suffered an injury to the L5-S1 (lower back) after his car got hit from behind.   The injury resulted in two surgeries.  The first surgery was a fusion and discectomy, and the second surgery was a fusion with a laminectomy.  The case resolved for $1,475,000 in less than two years after it was filed.

$3 million pre-trial mediated settlement, Medical Malpractice against a major New York medical center, negligent performance of a diagnostic medical procedure that caused a stroke and partial paralysis in a 50 year old woman. (Jeffrey E. Strauss, New York County-Manhattan, NY) (2013).
