As initial forecasts are pointing to the first major winter storm of 2016 hitting our region later this week, it’s a good time to separate facts from fiction when it comes to winter driving. While taking it slow and putting down the cellphone will obviously help drivers avoid motor-vehicle accidents regardless of the road conditions, there are many myths out there when it comes to icy/snowy conditions. Initial reports indicate that fatal crashes on New Jersey’s major roadways decreased slightly in 2015 as compared to previous years. The breakdown of who was killed in these motor vehicle accidents, and where they occurred, may surprise some readers.
December 14, 2015 – On the eve of trial, Mintz & Geftic of Elizabeth negotiated a settlement of a lawsuit for $531,000.
$531,000 settlement of an automobile accident case, of which $430,000 was for negligence and $101,000 was for workers’ compensation benefits. The case involved mild traumatic brain injuries suffered by the plaintiff (Monmouth County, New Jersey 2015)
$100,000 settlement of bus accident case (Essex County, New Jersey 2013).
$400,000 settlement of pedestrian struck by automobile case (Passaic County, New Jersey 2009).
$430,000 settlement arising out of automobile accident. (Bergen County, New Jersey 2001).
