    1. The type of Fourth of July fireworks that cause the most injuries on Fourth of July are sparklers. According to the National Fire Protection Association, sparklers alone account for more than 25% of emergency room visits for fireworks injuries. For children under 5 years of age, sparklers accounted for nearly half of the total estimated injuries.
    2. Sparklers burn at temperatures of about 2,000 degrees – hot enough to melt some metals. The National Safety Council suggests using safer alternatives, such as glow sticks, confetti poppers or colored streamers. (nsc.org)

    6. The NHTSA has been tracking car crash statistics for over 25 years, and they show that, on average, 51% of all fatal automobile accidents on the 4th of July are related to alcohol. This is more than any other holiday.
    7. The National Safety Council estimates 462 people may be killed and an additional thousands more may be seriously injured in motor vehicle crashes during the 2021 Fourth of July holiday weekend. This includes car accidents and truck accidents. This makes motor vehicle accidents the leading cause of injury, by far, on the Fourth of July.
